With a referral from your doctor, you may be eligible for the maximum Medicare rebate for Clinical Psychologists currently set at $126.50. You can claim up to 10 sessions per calendar year under Medicare. Any fees due must be paid at the end of the session by Cash, EFTPOS, Mastercard or Visa. HICAPS is available, as is online claiming of Medicare rebates. To receive a rebate from Medicare, you must be referred by your GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. Your GP will prepare a Mental Health Care Plan. Your GP may prefer that you book a longer session to enable time for the Care Plan to be completed. Please bring the Mental Health Care Plan to your first session. You may already have a Mental Health Care plan in place. If so, you can attend up to 10 individual sessions per the calendar year (January - December). If you’re not sure of how many sessions you have left on your plan, contact Medicare, and they can help you. Most private health insurers also offer rebates on psychological services (see below for more information).
You are responsible for paying any charges in excess of the Medicare rebate for services under this scheme. However, these out-of-pocket expenses will count towards the Medicare Safety Net. The Medicare Safety Net is designed to protect high users of health services from large out-of-pocket expenses. Private Health Insurance Most private health insurers offer rebates on psychological services. Rebates vary based on your level of cover. Check with your fund to see if you are covered. You cannot use your private health insurance ancillary cover to top up the Medicare rebates for these services. You need to decide if you will use Medicare or your private health insurance ancillary cover to pay for psychological services you receive. You can either access rebates from Medicare by following the claiming process or claim where available on your insurer’s ancillary benefits. You may use a combination of Medicare and private rebates to fund your treatment – for example, you may claim a rebate for the first session using your private health cover and then claim subsequent sessions through Medicare.
A range of plans are available, including hourly pricing. We will happily tailor individual packages to best meet your needs. A typical coaching plan may involve 6 x 90 minute sessions on a monthly or fortnightly basis. This may be followed by a final review session of 1 hour's duration.
